USTA AND TIA SERVE UP $6M AS PART OF THEIR PLAN FOR GROWTH

          The USTA and the TIA have refined their roles in the
     "Plan for Growth" grassroots tennis initiative for '98.  The
     refinement comes with $6M in joint financial support as the
     "Plan for Growth" begins its second year of attracting new
     players to the sport, using the tagline, "Try -- Learn --
     Play."  The TIA will take the initiative on the "Free Lesson
     Blitz," with the help of thousands of tennis teaching pros
     while offering free lessons and tennis carnivals for adults
     and children.  The USTA will invite players to the "Lesson
     Blitz" and help build skills through USA Tennis 1-2-3, a
     series of instructional sessions (USTA).
          ALTHEA TOLD ME ...: The USTA will be the lead sponsor
     of "Althea Gibson," a TV documentary about the tennis star.
     Narrated by Maya Angelou, and produced by FL-based
     ThunderHead Productions, the documentary will be begin to
     air this month on public TV stations nationwide (USTA).
