MLB CATCHING UP WITH THE REST FOR POSTSEASON TICKET PRICES

MLB has doubled the price of box seats for the World
Series, from $75 to $150, according to Murray Chass of the
N.Y. TIMES. MLB's Exec Council decided on the increase at a
meeting last June, but MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said that
it wasn't announced until yesterday "and came to light only
this week when teams sent letters to season-ticket holders
telling them of post-season prices." Selig: "I understand
the sensitivity of it and I share those concerns. But I
think this is the right thing to do. Frankly, our own
people have been critical that we were undervaluing the
tickets for our premier event." Clubs, however, can charge
more for "premium World Series seats." The Yankees, for
example, will have club box seats with waitress service for
$300 each (N.Y. TIMES, 8/12). For the LCS, box and reserved
seats will increase $10, to $60 and $45. General admission
and bleachers will rise $5 to $30 (N.Y. POST, 8/12).
