NFL COULD REVISIT REVENUE SHARING TO BRIDGE LARGE $$ GAP

The NFL, "concerned over how free agency affects its
poorer teams, is examining its expanding revenue sharing
program," according to Josh Gotthelf of the SPORTSBUSINESS
JOURNAL. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue: "There may be a
need for more revenue sharing in order for the collective-
bargaining agreement to operate fully effectively for all 31
or 32 of the teams that will be operating under it. If we
conclude that there is a need for more revenue sharing, we
will recommend it and I think eventually implement it."
Vikings President Roger Headrick estimates that the
difference between the league's highest grossing team and
its lowest grossing team approached $70M last season. He
said that while there is some sharing of revenue from new
team facilities, he added that further revenue sharing
"might include pooling more of the revenue teams generate
from their stadiums" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/10 issue).
