MEDIA NOTES

          Knicks C Patrick Ewing worked as an analyst last night
     on MSG Network's coverage of the WNBA Liberty.  Ewing will
     again join the net's coverage on August 13 (MSG)....In
     Chicago, Phil Rogers reports that Yankees Manager Joe Torre
     "could wind up as a voice on Yankees telecasts on MSG."  MSG
     Network President Joe Cohen: "If Joe was interested in
     broadcasting again, I would be interested in talking to him. 
     If Joe's plans change, I'd listen" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/2).  
     ...USA TODAY's Michael Hiestand writes, "Fox knows hype:
     Saturday, it replaced onscreen graphics with its own logo" 
     when Ken Griffey Jr. batted, "in case he homered and the
     footage was widely replayed."  Hiestand writes that Fox also
     showed actress Heather Locklear, "to hype her Fox show," on
     revolving backstop signage during Saturday's broadcast (USA
     TODAY, 8/3)....In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich profiles CTV
     Sports Net, set to launch October 9.  Bruce Grondin, Senior
     VP at Young & Rubican: "I just don't think there's enough
     advertising out there to support three networks.  A third
     network could be the straw that breaks the camel's back." 
     Zelkovich: "Whether there's room for all three in a country
     of 32 million remains to be seen, but CTV is convinced that
     the time is right for a regional sports network in Canada"
     (Chris Zelkovich, Toronto STAR, 8/2).   
          RADIO DAYS: Tim Roye, who reportedly planned to accept
     an offer to become the new radio voice of the Heat, has
     decided to remain with the Warriors.  Roye has been the
     Warrior's radio play-by-play announcer for the past three
     seasons (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 8/1)....Hurricanes games will no
     longer be broadcast on WTCK, according to its Program Dir
     Dennis Elliott.  Hurricanes Dir of Marketing Rick Francis
     said that the team is currently "in discussions" with other
     stations and hopes to have a response "within about two
     weeks" (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 8/3).
