BILL FORD SAYS HE WANTS THE "RIGHT GROUP" IN CLEVELAND

Lions Vice Chair Bill Ford Jr., a member of the NFL's
six-man committee to recommend an ownership group for the
Browns, "has some strong opinions on the subject," according
to Curt Sylvester of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. Ford: "I think
I'm out of step with a lot of the owners. I mean a lot of
the owners would take Bozo the Clown if he was the high
bidder, and I don't believe that at all. I'm really at the
other end of the spectrum. ... I don't even care about the
price. I just want to make sure we get the right group in
there that will build a strong organization for years to
come. And they're going to be involved in the league. I
don't want an 'investor' owner; I don't think that's good
for the league." In other news, Sylvester reports that the
Lions "might be interested" in acquiring an AFL team once
they move into their new stadium (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/31).
