NFL TEAM NOTES

Jets coach & GM Bill Parcells "strongly indicated he
will relinquish day-to-day control of the football operation
once his head-coaching days are over." Parcells: "I never
really thought much about the [GM position.] ... I'd almost
rather consult: 'Just call me if you need me'" (N.Y. DAILY
     NEWS, 7/27)....An estimated 7,000-9,000 attended a scrimmage
at the Patriots' training camp on Sunday in Smithfield, RI,
the "biggest" crowd in the team's 23 years at Bryant College
(BOSTON GLOBE, 7/27)....An estimated 5,000 fans showed up
Saturday for a Bucs pep rally and scrimmage in Orlando. In
Tampa, Pat Yasinskas wrote that if those results "were any
indication, the Bucs are well on their way toward winning
over the Walt Disney World corridor" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 7/26).
...The Oilers have sold "only" 29,000 season tickets this
season at the 41,000-seat Vanderbilt Stadium. None of the
team's eight home games sold out when single-game tickets
went on sale. The team has sold 45,000 PSLs for a 67,000-
seat stadium that opens in '99 (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/26).
