NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Reigning F1 Champ JACQUES VILLENEUVE has signed an
     agreement to drive next year for British American Racing
     (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 7/24).  In Toronto, Dan Knutson
     reports that "it's speculated" that Villeneuve's new one-
     year deal will pay him US$15M next season (TORONTO SUN,
     7/24)....In Washington, DC, U.S. Sen. JOHN MCCAIN (R-AZ)
     opened debate on the proposed MUHAMMAD ALI BOXING REFORM ACT
     yesterday and said that the bill would curb "exploitative
     and coercive" practices by the sport's promoters (N.Y. POST,
     7/24)....Legendary boxing announcer DON DUNPHY died
     Wednesday night in NY at the age of 90.  Over his career,
     Dunphy called more than 2,000 fights, including 200 title
     bouts and 50 heavyweight championships (N.Y. TIMES, 7/24).
     MSNBC's KEITH OLBERMANN, on Dunphy: "His style was spare,
     almost austere, so when it would crest into excitement you
     knew the excitement was genuine and not hype" ("The Big
     Show," 7/23).  Olbermann, on former Blues/CFL Argos Owner
     HARRY ORNEST, who died Tuesday at age 75: "[He] was one of
     the last of the sports owners who believed more in the
     sports than in the owning.  A wonderful, generous man with
     10,000 stories from two countries, four pro sports, and
     numberless friends" ("The Big Show," CNBC, 7/23).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
