EXTRA! EXTRA! CART'S FIRST INSERT HITS NEWSPAPERS ON SUNDAY

CART will reach 40 million homes this Sunday via its
first ever FSI, which will appear in Sunday newspapers in
conjunction with that day's '98 U.S. 500 presented by Toyota
at MI Speedway. The insert will include a "Watch & Win"
contest, in which one person will win a trip for two to a
Monterey, CA, bed-and-breakfast along with tickets to the
Honda Grand Prix of Monterey Featuring the Texaco/Havoline
300 on September 13. Armour Swift-Eckrich will include
coupons for its products in the four-color insert, which
CART produced with MI-based Valassis Communications and IL-
based Marketing Events. Plans call for the FSI promo, which
will take place next year around April's Toyota Grand Prix
of Long Beach, to continue annually (CART).
KOOL AND THE GANG: In Detroit, Betty Yerak examines
corporate sponsorship of auto racing, and notes that CART's
Team Kool Green gets 70% of its nearly $15M annual budget
from Kool. Other Team Kool sponsors include Klein Tools of
Chicago and NGK Spark Plubs of Japan (DETROIT NEWS, 7/23).
