ANY WORLD CUP BOUNCE? MLS played 27 games during the World Cup, from June 11 to July 11, averaging 15,593. Prior to the World Cup, the league averaged 14,894. For the nine games since the Cup, MLS has averaged 11,667. NOTES (^): '97 comparisons are to the same number of home dates. Chicago and Miami are first-year expansion teams. In '97, N.E.'s first home game drew 57,407 as part of a doubleheader including a World Cup qualifying match. -30-
