NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Former Blues/CFL Argos Owner HARRY ORNEST died
     yesterday in L.A. at the age of 75.  Ornest purchased the
     Blues in '83 and owned the team until '86 (ST. LOUIS POST-
     DISPATCH, 7/22).  In Edmonton, Bill Harris writes that
     Ornest was "well known for both being quick with a quip and
     tight with a buck" (EDMONTON SUN, 7/22)....ANNA MURDOCH
     filed for divorce from News Corp. Chair RUPERT MURDOCH
     yesterday, "an unexpected move that raised the prospect that
     the 67-year-old media mogul may lose part of his family's
     controlling stake in the media conglomerate in a divorce
     settlement," according to Martin Peers of DAILY VARIETY. 
     Anna Murdoch, who is a News Corp. Dir, could be entitled to
     a share of the family's $9B stake in the company (DAILY
     VARIETY, 7/22)....A developer says MICHAEL JORDAN has his
     eye on a potential restaurant site in Chapel Hill, NC
     (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 7/22)....Sports-talk radio
     personality SCOTT FERRALL appeared on the "Late Show" last
     night.  Ferrall, on his relationship with Indiana Univ.
     basketball coach BOB KNIGHT when he covered the team: "He
     cussed at me a lot."  On New York sports: "I love the lies,
     the extortion and the trouble" (CBS, 7/21)....SHAQUILLE
     O'NEAL is directing a segment of the "Cousin Skeeter" series
     for Tollin/Robins Productions that will air on Nickelodeon
     on Tuesday and Thursday nights (DAILY VARIETY, 7/22). 
     O'Neal will also make promo stops in support of his new rap
     album, "Respect," which will be capped by an August 22
     performance in HI with PUFF DADDY, LIL KIM and MACE
     (AMUSEMENT BUSINESS, 7/21).....Packers QB BRETT FAVRE, on
     reviews of his cameo in the film "There's Something About
     Mary": "It's funny, all these people give me reviews and
     some are good and some are bad.  What do they expect me to
     do?  It's like asking MATT DILLON to come out here and play
     quarterback" (MIL. JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/22).
