NFL TEAM NOTES: DON'T PUT THE BROWNS IN CANTON JUST YET

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton announced that
its '99 Hall of Fame exhibition game between the Browns and
Cowboys has been "pushed back a week" from August 7 to
August 14, due to scheduling conflicts, according to Michael
Weinreb of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. That means the Browns'
first game, on August 7, "will be played outside Ohio, and
most likely will be televised locally." Weinreb notes that
sources said the "conflict has to do with the NFL's American
Bowl exhibition games." It marks the "first time the Hall
of Fame Game will not be played on the opening weekend of
the exhibition season" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 7/16).
STEELERS TO REWARD SEASONED VETS? In Pittsburgh, Ed
Bouchette reports that "[l]ong-time" Steelers season-ticket
holders may receive a discount when the team sells PSLs to
their new stadium and "those far away" from the 50-yard line
"may not have to pay at all." The team has not decided on
the PSL cost, but they "plan to inscribe the name of PSL
owners permanently somewhere in the stadium" and are looking
into including a Steelers museum inside the new stadium
     complex (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 7/16).
TEAM NOTES: Jaguars Owner Wayne Weaver donated $100,000
on behalf of his team to the American Red Cross Disaster
Relief Fund, to help the victims of the fires that have
afflicted Northeast FL. Weaver's donation was matched by a
$100,000 gift by NFL Charities (Jaguars)....The Broncos will
present their full-time employees with the "diamond-studded"
Super Bowl rings on Friday (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/16).
