          U.S. Senate candidate Geraldine Ferraro, on the Yankees
     pursuit of a new ballpark: "I think it is a certifiably dumb
     idea to move Yankee Stadium, with its jobs and its revenues,
     away from the Bronx" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/16)....Denver city
     officials said that a "non-compete" clause that the city
     signed with Ascent Entertainment leaves McNichols Sports
     Arena "with no real purpose once" the Pepsi Center opens in
     '99.  That "could de the death knell" for the arena, which
     "has already been recommended for demolition" by Mayor
     Wellington Webb and others (DENVER POST, 7/15).
