WELCOME TO THE GARAGE: PANTHERS ANNOUNCE DEAL WITH NATIONAL

The NHL Panthers' new Sunrise arena will be called the
"National Car Rental Center," as the deal was officially
announced Tuesday, according to Alan Snel of the Ft.
     Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL. The $10-year, $25M deal with
National Car Rental (NCR) also includes signage for NCR
around the arena (SUN-SENTINEL, 7/15). A new logo was
introduced which will be emblazoned on top of the arena for
airplanes to see. The logo has the words "National" and
"Center" darkened, with "Rental Car" in lighter print. NCR
Corporate VP Bob Dimmick said that NCR is negotiating a
separate deal with the Panthers for ads during games, which
could elevate the total package to $32-33M. NCR, which is
the first rental car company to buy arena naming rights, now
has a roster of sports sponsorships which also includes the
World Cup, World Figure Skating Championships, the PGA Tour
and the Breeders' Cup (Julie Kay, MIAMI HERALD, 7/15).
