SECRET AGENT MAN? REPORT SAYS CUBAS PLANNING BID FOR MARLINS

          Agent Joe Cubas "plans to meet" with Marlins Owner
     Wayne Huizenga this week "to make an offer to buy the
     baseball team," according to an AP report on ESPN
     SportsZone.  Cubas, whose clients include Yankees P Orlando
     Hernandez and Devil Rays P Rolando Arrojo, reportedly "is
     finalizing an investor group" to buy the team and "has
     spoken with city leaders about financing a new domed stadium
     in downtown Miami."  Cubas spokesperson Rene Guim said that
     plans to put an investment group together have been underway
     "for well over a month."  Guim "would not say" whether Cubas
     would meet Huizenga's asking price for the team, but said
     that if the bid is successful, Cubas "would resign and give
     up his certification as a baseball players agent."  Marlins
     President Don Smiley, who is also trying to finalize an
     ownership offer, declined comment on the report, and
     Huizenga was unavailable for comment (AP/SportsZone, 7/11).
