A "beer battle will be fought on the sidelines" at next
month's MLB All-Star Game at Coors Field, between A-B's
Budweiser, the official beer of MLB, and Coors, according to
Dina Bunn of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS. While Coors "is not
about to give up its home field advantage," the brewer
"needs to do more since it is not an official sponsor."
Coors is planning "several promotional events" surrounding
the game, including producing a commemorative Coors Light
can and sponsoring a retail drawing to win bats autographed
by Rockies OF Larry Walker. Coors Dir of Communications
Dave Taylor: "We want to make sure, since this is our home
market, and this is really an event that not only the
country, but the world will be watching, that we have the
best corporate and brand image out there that we possibly
can." Bunn adds that A-B "is not resting on its sponsorship
title," and will bring its Bud One Airship blimp to Denver.
A-B will also throw a parking lot party near the stadium and
will have its Clydesdale horses make "various appearances
around town" (Dina Bunn, ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 6/19).
