MLBP AND PACIFIC REACH COURT AGREEMENT ON TRADING CARDS

MLBP and Pacific Trading Cards have reached agreement
on their trading card dispute. MLBP appealed the lower
court ruling of U.S. District Judge John Martin, who ruled
earlier this month that Pacific Trading Cards could continue
to distribute cards featuring MLB players in uniform despite
the objection of MLB owners. Pacific has a licensing deal
with the MLBPA, but not MLBP. In Appeals Court on Tuesday,
MLBP and Pacific reached accord on a one-year deal for '98
that will allow Pacific to produce a line of English
language cards featuring players in uniform. As part of the
deal, Pacific will pay MLBP royalties on all products sold
in '98 and a penalty on the sale of cards produced prior to
settlement. Pacific will also modify the existing products
to show that they are now licensed by MLBP (MLBP).
