BIG 12 HEAD STEVE HATCHELL RESIGNS; DID REPORT HASTEN MOVE?

Big 12 Conference Commissioner STEVE HATCHELL resigned
Thursday, "two weeks after reports that an internal
investigation of the league office alleged that he created a
hostile work environment for staff members," according to
Bill Campbell of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Conference COO
DAVE MARTIN was named interim Commissioner. Martin said it
could be six to nine months before a permanent successor is
chosen. Campbell writes that Hatchell "declined to reveal
terms of his resignation." Hatchell: "We've agreed that this
is the end of the chapter, and we're moving on." Big 12
Chair RAY BOWEN said that Hatchell denies all the allegations
made in a report filed by the law firm of Shook, Hardy and
Bacon for the conference. Bowen added that none of the
allegations have been proven (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/8).
