VIKINGS UPDATE: CITICORP BECOMES CLANCY'S PRIMARY LENDER

Tom Clancy's prospective Vikings ownership group "has
selected Citicorp USA Inc. as its primary lender in the
purchase of the team," according to group spokesperson Marc
Ganis and reported by Don Banks of the Minneapolis STAR
TRIBUNE. In addition, Citicorp has invited two local banks
-- Norwest Corp. and U.S. Bancorp -- to join its bank
syndicate in minority roles. Ganis would not disclose the
amount of financing needed by Clancy's group. But "to
offset recent concerns from the NFL that Clancy might not be
able to afford" the Vikings' $200M price tag, Ganis
"reiterated that preliminary reviews by league attorneys
have shown the group's financing is within the NFL's newly
raised" $75M debt ceiling (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/25).
In St. Paul, Bob Sansevere reported that Citicorp's
contribution "is believed to be between" $100-120M (ST. PAUL
PIONEER PRESS, 4/25). Sansevere: "Citibank's involvement in
Clancy's purchase would seem to lay to rest the rumor Clancy
is having trouble financing the team" (PIONEER PRESS, 4/26).
