LIVE FROM 42ND STREET, IT'S "SPORTSCENTER" -- MAYBE SOON

ESPN "is said to be negotiating for space inside the
new Conde Nast Building" in NYC, where it would build a
sidewalk studio and entertainment center, according to Paul
Tharp of the N.Y. POST. Sources said that ESPN "plans to
move in first -- by early 1999 -- before Conde Nast
relocates its 15 titles there in April 1999." ESPN would
broadcast from its sidewalk studios along Broadway and West
42nd Street, "hoping to lure more than 500,000 tourists
annually" into the entertainment center with a restaurant,
batting cages, virtual golf and numerous interactive
sporting games. Disney officials said that they're "looking
at several sites in Times Square for the ESPN-oriented
center," but a spokesperson said that "No lease has been
signed anywhere yet" (Paul Tharp, N.Y. POST, 4/22).
