Frank Robinson, who serves as Dir of Operations for the
AZ Fall League & Consultant to the Commissioner for Special
Projects and Royals VP/Baseball Operations George Brett have
been added to the Fox Saturday Baseball broadcast team.
Robinson and Brett will share a schedule of games, teaming
with play-by-play man Josh Lewin. Robinson will work the
first nine weeks of the schedule, and Brett will take over
for the final nine weeks. The duo replaces Yankees analyst
Ken Singleton (Fox Sports). Fox Exec Producer Ed Goren said
he does not see Brett's VP post with the Royals as posing
any conflict (USA TODAY, 4/21). Brett "did seek the Royals'
OK" before accepting the job. The team said that "they did
not perceive any conflict of interest" (K.C. STAR, 4/21).
A ROSE BUD? In N.Y., Bob Raissman writes that with Pete
Rose's "audition" for a job as co-host of Fox Sports Net's
"The Last Word" with Jim Rome, the "final say on whether
Rose gets the gig won't rest solely" with Fox. Raissman
notes that due to Fox's broadcast relationship with MLB and
their ownership of the Dodgers, Fox will have to contact
MLB, including Acting Commissioner Bud Selig, "for a yes or
no vote on Rose" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/21).
