AVP TAKES INITIAL STEPS IN EFFORT TO RESTRUCTURE TOUR

The AVP players board and players recently met to
discuss the state of the tour and devise a plan for the
upcoming season. Due to financial constraints and to avoid
interruption of the '98 season, the athletes have agreed to
cut total prize money at each of the remaining 20 events to
$50,000. Two events have been completed to start the '98
season. Player Karch Kiraly: "This should dispel the rumors
that the tour was on the brink of collapse." Additionally,
AVP pros will begin a promotional campaign by targeting
local volleyball clubs, schools, hospitals and youth groups.
Players will enter specific markets prior to events to
conduct events, speeches and clinics (AVP).
