BUICK DOES THE COOP-A-LOOP: JOINS SEARS IN NEW WNBA PROMO

General Motors' Buick division is joining with Sears
Roebuck & Co. and the WNBA for a national sweepstakes promo
supported by national TV advertising, according to Tanya
Gazdik of ADWEEK. Between June 21 and July 1, more than 830
Sears stores will ask customers to guess the number of WNBA
basketballs that can fit inside a '98 Buick Regal GS.
Entrants who guess correctly will be entered into a random
drawing, from which 10 winners will receive a Buick Regal
GS. One grand prize winner will have their car delivered
personally to them by '97 WNBA MVP Cynthia Cooper. Cooper
will be featured in a national TV ad for the promo, created
by Chicago-based Ogilvy & Mather. Momentum IMC, the event/
     promotions arm of Buick's agency MI-based McCann-Erickson
Worldwide, will continue in helping coordinate McCann's
relationship with the WNBA (ADWEEK, 3/30 issue).
GETTING ACTIVE: Monarchs G Ruthie Bolton-Holifield
appears in a PSA for "WNBA Be Active," a health and fitness
initiative. The 30-second spot debuted last night during
TNT's Pistons-Bulls game. The PSA was produced by NBA
Entertainment, and will air for the rest of the NBA season
on NBC, TBS and TNT, and throughout the WNBA season on ESPN,
NBC and Lifetime. The program is sponsored by Sears (WNBA).
