YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR, BABY! NBA/NHL MID-SEASON CLASSIC NOTES

          The NBA's All-Star Weekend in Philadelphia in February
     '99 is "expected" to have a $25-30M economic impact on the
     city, according to figures from the Philadelphia Convention
     & Tourism Bureau cited by Harriet Lessy of the PHILADELPHIA
     DAILY NEWS. In all, about 18,000 room nights will be booked
     during the week and the league's Jam Session should draw
     100,000 visitors to the Convention Center (DAILY NEWS, 4/1).
          READING THE TEA LEAFS: In Toronto, Lance Hornby writes
     that the Maple Leafs are bidding to bring the NHL All-Star
     Game to the Air Canada Centre in January 2000.  Hornby
     writes that the Capitals, "other teams with new buildings"
     and the Red Wings are all likely to bid on the game.  Tampa
     Bay will host the 1999 All-Star game (TORONTO SUN, 4/1).
