BARKLEY INVOKES FIRST AMENDMENT IN POSSIBLE SUIT AGAINST NBA

Charles Barkley said he is considering filing a lawsuit
against the NBA after its most recent fine against him,
according to Sefko & Barron of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. The
league fined Barkley $10,000 for comments he made against
game official Jack Nies on Friday. Barkley: "I want to know
why I can't voice my opinion under the First Amendment."
Sefko & Barron add that all NBA player contracts "include
clauses that forbid players from talking about matters that
are considered harmful to the league's image or reputation"
(Sefko & Barron, HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 4/1).
