REGGIE WHITE TACKLES CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES BEFORE LEGISLATURE

WI lawmakers were "stunned" Wednesday by comments made
by Packers DE REGGIE WHITE during an "hourlong speech on the
floor of the state assembly in which he denounced
homosexuality and made what some considered offensive
remarks about racial differences," according to Amy Rinard
of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. In his speech, White
said that "blacks like to dance, Asians could 'turn a
television into a watch,' Hispanics knew how to put 20 or 30
people under the same roof, and whites were good at making
money." White, from his speech: "When you look at the black
race, black people are very gifted in what we call worship
and celebration. A lot of us like to dance. ... Hispanics
are gifted in family structure. You see a Hispanic person,
and they can put 20 or 30 people in one home." White also
said that he was offended that homosexuals "compare their
plight with the plight of black people" and say they have
been persecuted and discriminated against. White:
"Homosexuality is a decision; it's not a race" (JOURNAL
SENTINEL, 3/26). CBS Sports Dir of Communications
LESLIEANNE WADE "declined to comment on White's speech or
whether his remarks would affect his chances for a studio
analyst's job" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PLANET, 3/26).
