YEAR OF THE TIGER MEANS NO CAMERAS ON THE GOLF COURSE

Citing "growing player complaints that clicking shutters are messing with golfers' minds," the PGA Tour has "barred spectator snapshots" during the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament, according to John Woolfolk of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Spectator David Buchanan, from Modesto, CA: "This tournament used to be about fun. But how can it be about fun when they take our cameras away?" Woolfolk wrote that the "large and noisy crowds drawn by Tiger Woods at last year's tournament have been blamed for the camera ban." As for the celebrities in the tournament, some "shrugged off the distraction." Alice Cooper: "I'm used to people yelling and throwing things at me on stage. It doesn't bother me a bit. Cameras are the least of my worries." Northern CA Golf Assoc. spokesperson Adam Brady said that despite the camera ban, ticket sales are up 20% this year (John Woolfolk, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 1/30).
