NEW LEAGUE LOOKS TO PROVIDE FOOTBALL ALTERNATIVE

          An L.A. group headed by attorney Carl Capozzola is
     "projecting" a new football league to compete with the NFL
     "with a new wrinkle," according to Bill Dwyre of the L.A.
     TIMES.  Capozzola's group, which includes former Rams DE
     Fred Dryer and former Rams GM Steve Rosenbloom, is proposing
     a league to begin play in fall of '99 with all 10 teams
     "owned by the fans."  Capozzola's plan includes "persuading
     20,000 fans to invest $4,000 each," producing $80M of
     "start-up money."  In addition, Capozzola said that his
     group "would approach some of the larger TV players that
     were left out" in the new NFL TV deals (L.A. TIMES, 1/24).
