LEAGUE NOTES

In L.A., Bill Shaikin reported that int'l soccer clubs
"could visit" Anaheim Stadium next year as part of a two-
game exhibition series MLS "hopes to stage in partnership"
with Disney. MLS Commissioner Doug Logan met this week with
Anaheim Sports President Tony Tavares "to discuss playing
two exhibition games in the renovated stadium in 1998 and
perhaps four in 1999." Shaikin: "The success of those games
would impress MLS and Disney as the league and company
consider whether to place an expansion team in Anaheim
Stadium as early as 2000" (L.A. TIMES, 12/12).
AVP: The AVP has added an event at Jacksonville Beach
that will be televised nationally on either ESPN or Fox,
according to Earl Daniels of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. The
area stop, "replacing a stop in Miami Beach, will be held
May 15-17 and will be called the Miller Lite/AVP Tour Ocean
Waves Open." FL-based Ocean Waves Sunglasses will pay $2M
over five years for title sponsorship (TIMES-UNION, 12/13).
