NORTHWEST SPORTS ATTRIBUTES LOSSES TO "HIGH COST" OF CANUCKS

The "high cost" of running the Canucks meant a record
loss of C$21.2M this year for parent Northwest Sports
Enterprises Ltd., according to Keith Damsell in the EDMONTON
SUN. Northwest Sports Chair Stan McCamm: "The main factor
contributing to the loss ... is the continued increase in
players' salaries." For the 12 months ended June 30,
Northwest lost C$21.2M compared with a loss of C$9.5M for
the same period a year ago. Kevin Gass, a spokesperson for
Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment, which owns 86% of
Northwest, said that in the long term, the company hopes to
better manage players' salaries and improve broadcasting and
     sponsorship revenue (EDMONTON SUN, 11/12).
