MEDIA NOTES

          RATINGS: ABC received a 7.7 preliminary overnight
     rating for its Michigan-Penn State game Saturday.  On NBC,
     the Breeders Cup earned a 2.5 overnight, down 17% from last
     year's 3 rating (Howard Manly, BOSTON GLOBE, 11/11).  
          GENERAL: ABC Sports has been using "backup crews" on
     its "Monday Night Football" telecasts "to avoid losing
     coverage" as it did for the Tour Championship's third round. 
     (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/11)....ESPN and Time Warner Cable have
     reached a carriage agreement for ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNEWS
     (ESPN)....Raycom Sports reach agreement with Turner Sports
     that allows TBS to televise the Carquest Bowl through the
     year 2000 (Raycom Sports)....CART Licensed Products has
     reached deals with TX-based Starting Blocks International
     for the "Who Works in CART" reference book.  CART also inked
     a deal with U.K.-based Hazleton Publishing for use of the
     CART logo on calendars, yearbooks and wall planners (CART).
