SCHOTT SAYS REDS WOULD CONSIDER RENOVATING CINERGY FIELD

Reds CEO Marge Schott said Sunday that the team "would
consider playing in a renovated Cinergy Field instead of a
new ballpark," according to Geoff Hobson of the CINCINNATI
ENQUIRER. Schott: "I think we should take a look at
(renovation) to see if it can work." Schott said that she
doesn't think the site the Reds had been looking at for a
new ballpark, known as the Wedge, "can work, because a large
part of the old stadium would be under construction"
(CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 11/10). More Schott: "We'd prefer a
new stadium, but the county gave the Bengals so much money
on their stadium that I don't know [sic] there's enough left
for us. Plus, if we do it this way, it would help out the
taxpayers" (Barry Horstman, CINCINNATI POST, 11/10). On
Monday, Hamilton County officials "avoided direct response"
to Schott's comments, "but those monitoring the discussions
say her statement could signal a dramatic turn in the
stadium debate" (May & Hobson, CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 11/11).
