AFTER LONG PARTNERSHIP, REEBOK PARTS WAYS WITH JOHN DALY

Reebok will not renew its "lucrative endorsement deal"
with John Daly, according to Ron Sirak of the AP. Sources
told the AP that the decision by Reebok "was strictly a
business matter," and had nothing to do with Daly's two
trips for alcohol rehabilitation. Reebok Senior VP/Golf
Division John Morgan: "It was a really difficult decision.
John's been a part of the Reebok family for six or seven
years, but we want to take the golf division in a different
direction." Sirak reported that the Reebok deal brought
Daly "between" $400,000-$500,000 a year along with shoes,
shirts and pants. Daly, who lost his equipment deal with
Wilson after entering rehab for the second time in March
'97, was signed by Callaway Golf in May '97. Daly also has
an endorsement deal with Hudson Foods, but sources said that
deal "would not continue" after Tyson Foods completes its
takeover of the company at year's end (AP, 11/1).
