FEELING MINNESOTA, PART II: CLOSE VOTE FOR SPORTS AMENDMENT

Likely voters in Minneapolis "are evenly split" on a
charter amendment to restrict city spending on a new
stadium, according to Dennis McGrath of the Minneapolis STAR
TRIBUNE. The Star Tribune/KMSP-TV MN poll found that 48% of
likely voters would vote against the amendment, while 46%
would vote for it. If approved on Tuesday, the amendment
would limit city spending on any pro sports facility,
including a new Twins stadium, to $10M (STAR TRIBUNE, 11/2).
AND THE TWINS: In Minneapolis, columnist Sid Hartman
quoted Twins Owner Carl Pohlad on the current ballpark
negotiations: "If it can't be done, it can't be done. I've
had it about up to my neck with this thing. ... No matter
what I do, it is not good enough." Hartman: "A lot of
people with less patience than Carl Pohlad and less feeling
about this community would have given up and moved the team
by now" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 11/1). Hartman also
reported that Timberwolves Owner Glen Taylor said "he hasn't
had any contact" with the Pohlad family for the past two
weeks "and that it appears the Pohlads no longer are
interested in a joint venture." Taylor also added that he
has "no interest" in owning the Vikings, but Hartman wrote
that before the Vikings sold, both Taylor and Pohlad "might
emerge as potential buyers" (STAR TRIBUNE, 11/2).
