ANSCHUTZ "WELCOMES COMPETITION" FOR AN L.A. FOOTBALL STADIUM

Anschutz Corp. President & COO Cannon Harvey said that
NHL Kings Owner Philip Anschutz "remains committed" to
bringing pro football to the L.A. Coliseum "and welcomes
competition from any other possible site, including the area
around Dodger Stadium owned by Peter O'Malley," according to
Jim Newton of the L.A. TIMES. Harvey, in a letter to State
Sen. Richard Polanco: "We do not believe Peter O'Malley or
anyone else should be asked to hold off on making a
proposal, and we would urge Mr. O'Malley and others to make
their proposals as soon as possible." Newton wrote that the
letter "represents a subtle but important shift in emphasis
     by the project's backers" (L.A. TIMES, 10/31). But T.J.
Simers wrote, "The Los Angeles pursuit for football ... is
in chaos, and getting worse by the week because of political
intrigue. The lack of leadership remains acute, beginning
with the mayor" (L.A. TIMES, 11/1).
