NAMES IN THE NEWS

          ESPN anchor GARY MILLER was arrested Saturday at a
     nightclub in Cleveland and charged with public indecency,
     aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest (Mult,
     10/12)....N.Y.-based developer JERRY SPEYER has reportedly
     brokered a deal linking Radio City Productions with MSG to
     sign up shows for both sites.  MSG President DAVE CHECKETTS
     would head up the new company that will book talent into
     both MSG and Radio City Music Hall (N.Y. POST, 10/13).
     ...ESPN's DICK SCHAAP, who hosts "The Sports Reporters," was
     profiled by Michael Hirsley of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE.  Schaap,
     who is also a theater critic for ABC: "I think I'm the only
     person who votes for both the Heisman Trophy and the Tony
     awards" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/12)....In an examination of the
     personal finances of celebrities, it is reported that DENNIS
     RODMAN has a financial advisor who put him on a $1,000-per-
     week allowance.  All the rest of Rodman's income is invested
     -- "some in individual stocks and most in mutual funds." 
     Rodman also holds "big equity stakes" in Oakley sunglasses
     and supermarket chain Safeway (N.Y. POST, 10/12)....Former
     MLB Commissioner FAY VINCENT contributed a column in
     Sunday's N.Y. TIMES on the loss of the Browns, his favorite
     NFL team.  Vincent: "When the Browns return to life in some
     future season, I wonder how I'll respond.  My guess is that
     the flame will be dim.  There is a big cost to these
     franchise shifts.  Competition for my sports loyalty is now
     much greater" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/12).
