MAY THE SCHWARTZ BE WITH YOU: TENNIS AGENT PROFILED

IMG's JEFF SCHWARTZ, who represents PETE SAMPRAS,
MARTINA HINGIS and MARCELO RIOS, "has made nary a misstep
since joining IMG in 1992," according to Andrea Leand. In a
profile, Leand writes that "while he may not have the
notoriety of Tom Cruise's Jerry [Maguire,] Jeff Schwartz
fits the title of another Cruise movie, 'All The Right
Moves.'" Schwartz: "There is the perception that agents are
after the money. ... I'm not that way and there are a lot
(of agents) not that way. (The job) is all about the
client." Schwartz's "newest responsibility" will be
orchestrating the U.S. marketing for Martina Hingis, who
"challenged" IMG to produce some endorsements before her
U.S. "nemesis" VENUS WILLIAMS "eclipsed" her in the U.S.
market. Schwartz: "Obviously Martina is better known, she
has the titles and the No. 1 ranking. ... We are looking for
one or two endorsements from a company that fits Martina's
image, a blue-chip company that will make Martina a part of
its campaign" (TENNIS WEEK, 10/9 issue).
