FRANCHISE NOTES

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones was interviewed by Ed Werder
on CNN's "NFL Preview." Jones, on coaching the team:
"There's a challenge, I think, to do something that hasn't
been done before. If I really thought that it would be a
key to helping us win a Super Bowl then I would give it
consideration. At this time, I can't see those thoughts"
     ("NFL Preview," 9/28)....In N.Y., yesterday's crowd of
68,891 was the second-smallest crowd for a September NFL
Giants game at Giants Stadium (N.Y. TIMES, 9/29)....In
Charlotte, Rick Bonnell, on Hornets Owner George Shinn:
"[Y]ou have to wonder if Shinn may finally decide to sell
the team and live a quieter, less public life. Shinn is a
fighter, but more than ever he must question whether he can
convince politicians to approve $50 million in public
funding toward a new building. If Shinn does look to sell,
he may struggle to get what he thinks the team is worth"
(CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/28)....In Detroit, the Lions' ticket
department kept Packers fans "to a minimum -- perhaps 8,000
to 10,000 mostly scattered throughout the upper decks and
end zones" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/29)....In Milwaukee, Bucks
VP/Business Ops John Steinmiller denied that any significant
cost is involved in pulling ads for the Bucks' upcoming
season which featured F Vin Baker, who was traded to the
Sonics (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 9/28)....MSG has revoked
hundreds of season tickets from fans "who allegedly resold
them to scalpers." MSG is redistributing 400 Knicks and 200
Rangers season tickets to fans on waiting lists and those
looking for an upgrade (N.Y. POST, 9/28).
