AMERICAN AIRLINES IN "SERIOUS" TALKS ON HEAT NAMING RIGHTS

Metro-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas said that the county is
involved in "serious negotiations" with American Airlines
about naming rights for the Heat's planned bayfront arena,
according to Barry Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD. Penelas
said the county "has spoken" with other companies, including
NationsBank, about the rights to name the new arena, which
the Heat "hopes" to open in time for the '99-2000 season.
Penelas: "They are the dominant airline in South Florida.
It's a natural." American declined comment. In other news,
Heat President/Business Operations Jay Cross said that the
Heat has a "passing interest" in acquiring expansion AFL and
AHL teams from broadcast mogul Bud Paxson, who "is trying"
to sell both franchises (MIAMI HERALD, 9/27).
