LOWER PROJECTIONS FOR ENGLISH SOCCER PPV; FIFA KICKS ON

English soccer will receive "far less money" from PPV
TV than "previously thought, even though a third of the
population follows the game," according to Simon Kuper of
the FINANCIAL TIMES. PPV "will generate only" $725M in
revenue a year by 2003, with 2.5 million people paying to
watch individual matches. Forecasts by banks, consultants
and club executives had 10 million people buying games and
creating revenues over $3B a year. The new numbers are from
an independent report by publisher Fletcher Research and
media consultant Oliver & Ohlbaum (FINANCIAL TIMES, 9/24).
FIFA-VISION: FIFA will produce its own weekly TV
magazine program beginning next year. The series will be
produced by ISL TV productions and each episode will be 26
minutes long, and the first of 50 episodes will be shown in
     January (REUTERS, ESPN SportsZone, 9/23).
