GIANTS AND JETS LOOK FOR WINDFALL WITH NEW LUXURY SUITES

Construction on 46 new luxury boxes in Giants Stadium was completed yesterday, according to Richard Wilner of the N.Y. POST. Beginning in '98, the Jets and Giants stand to take in "more than" $1M in added annual revenue from the boxes, which will be among the "priciest" in sports. The Jets, Giants, and the N.J. Sports and Exposition Authority are partners in the deal to build and sell the boxes. The suites will rent for "up to" $350,000 per year, which includes up to 22 tickets to both Jets and Giants games and parking passes. Food and beverage costs, "about" $600 per event, will be extra. The new suites are 85% sold. Still to be completed are 26 Tower Suites, located above the upper deck which will rent for $140,000 a year, and 120 club seats, leased tickets which cost $5,000 apiece (N.Y. POST, 9/10). MEANWHILE, BACK ON THE GROUND: The NJSEA announced that despite drainage problems, the $1.3M Astroturf field installed in Giants Stadium this year "will remain throughout the pro football season" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/10).
