LEAGUE NOTES

The All-American Football League, set to start in March
'99, has agreed on terms for a lease with the Orange Bowl.
The deal must be approved by the city commission (MIAMI
HERALD, 9/6)....An AP poll of 686 adults shows that 54%
support MLB's radical realignment plan that would see 15
teams change leagues, with 27% opposed. Yet 48% said that
ending the "traditional distinction" between the AL and NL
"makes them like the plan less." The poll, taken August 22-
31 by ICR of Media, PA, has a margin of error of +/- 3.7%
(AP, 9/9)....In N.Y., Murray Chass noted that only the
Braves, Expos and Twins averaged less attendance during
interleague games than intraleague action. Labor Day '97
attendance, which featured interleague action, drew 470,257,
compared with 297,072 from a year ago (N.Y. TIMES, 9/7).
