FOX SPORTS INKS DEAL WITH PASS FOR RIGHTS TO TIGERS/PISTONS

Fox Sports Detroit (FSD) has acquired the exclusive
cable rights to the Pistons and Tigers from the PASS network
and, upon completion of the deal, the Pistons will be seen
on FSD at the start of this season, while the Tigers will
debut for the '98 season. Earlier this year, FSD had
acquired the cable rights to the Red Wings, along with the
rights to the Pistons starting in '99. FSD will debut in
mid-September and launch as a basic cable channel (Fox).
POWER PLAYER: In Detroit, Steve Crowe reports that
Ameritech New Media has become "the first" local cable
system to sign on to carry FSD. Also on Tuesday, TCI Cable
said that "its many outlets across Michigan would pick up"
FSD. In purchasing PASS' inventory, FSD will make it
"easier for cable systems" to offer channel space for its
new basic service (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 8/27).
