MEDIA NOTES

          RATINGS NOTES: In Boston, Sunday's Broncos-Patriots
     preseason game drew a 13.5 rating on WHDH.  Going head-to-
     head with the Pats, Sunday's Red Sox-Twins earned a 4.1 on
     WABU (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/19)....In Baltimore, Friday's Orioles-
     Mariners drew a 12.6/24 on WJZ.  On Saturday, the O's-Angels
     on WNUV scored a 10.0/20, while at the same time, Saturday's
     Ravens-Eagles on WBFF earned a 4.4/8 (Baltimore SUN, 8/19).
     ...In DC, Saturday's Redskins-Falcons on WJLA drew a 12.8/25
     (WASHINGTON POST, 8/19).
          OTHER NOTES: In N.Y., Richard Sandomir reports that in
     the Time Warner-SportsChannel dispute over the carriage of
     Mets game, Time Warner yesterday proposed to make the
     remaining 12 games available for $1 each, with $.90 to
     SportsChannel. SportsChannel has rejected the deal, which
     Rainbow Media Exec VP/Sports Mike Bair called "a p.r. ploy
     that doesn't serve customers" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/19)....HBO
     Sports will explore the life of Joe DiMaggio in a one-hour
     documentary, "Where Have You Gone Joe DiMaggio?"  It will
     premiere on October 20 (HBO)....ESPN Int'l will air the
     Super Bowl and 35 regular-season NFL games to more than 150
     countries and territories worldwide (ESPN Int'l).
