Woolworth Corp. has agreed to buy 27 OH-based Koenig
Sporting Goods stores for $10M in cash "to expand its 540-
store Champs Sports division" (N.Y. POST, 8/19)....CNN's
Casey Wian reported on the U.S. Customs Department's
investigation of "knockoff" golf clubs. Wian: "The Customs
Department has seized 245 shipments of the illegal golf
clubs since it began targeting the problem 18 months ago.
There is evidence the crackdown is working, because at the
retail level, prices of counterfeit clubs are rising"

reported that Rawlings Sporting Goods "has a letter of
intent to buy the privately held Victoriaville Hockey
Business. It includes the Vic, Victoriaville and McBarton
brands. Victoriaville has about $14 million in annual sales

Street & Smith's Sports Publications have signed on as
official sponsors of the '97 USA Baseball Salute to
