COYOTES GETTING RESTLESS AT AMERICAN WEST ARENA?

The Coyotes "are less than thrilled" with America West
Arena, according to Paul Giblin of the Mesa TRIBUNE, who
wrote the team has "suggested major renovations," and also
"talked about leaving for a proposed East Valley domed
complex." The Coyotes claim that 4,283 seats out of the
16,210 capacity "provide only partial views of the ice," and
while the Suns and Coyotes "studied several proposals" to
renovate the arena, it will go unchanged for "at least" the
'97-98 season. Coyotes President Shawn Hunter: "This is
year two, so we really would be focusing on years three,
four and five." Jerry Colangelo, who serves as landlord for
the city-owned arena: "[W]e gave them a sweetheart lease to
make that work and we're willing to help wherever and
whenever we can, but ... there's only so much that can be
done to the building and therefore I'm not sure anyone could
ever be totally satisfied" (MESA TRIBUNE, 8/17).
