LEAGUE NOTES

          The NBPA said that it intends to file a grievance with
     an NBA arbitrator "regarding the amount of the fine
     assessed" against the Nets' Jayson Williams for comments
     deemed "detrimental to the team."  NBPA Exec Dir Bill
     Hunter: "I think it is a clear issue of freedom of speech"
     (N.Y. POST, 8/1)....In Atlanta, ProServ Southeast has signed
     a contract with the AVP to hold a beach volleyball event
     downtown next summer (ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE, 7/28
     issue)....CISL Commissioner Ron Weinstein, on the league's
     new sponsor and TV deals with GM and Fox Sports Net: "It's
     taken time to establish these corporate relationships, but
     we're on our way.  ...  We're still a developing sport, but
     we believe that once people get exposed to our game, they
     will come back for more" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 7/30).
