STADIUM NOTES

          The 49ers' new stadium/mall complex "will offer parking
     for football fans only on game days, according to a proposal
     being considered by the team."  Game patrons would use the
     mall's parking spaces on game days (S.F. EXAMINER, 7/31)....
     S.F. Mayor Willie Brown signed a lease and other documents
     for the MLB Giants' China Basin ballpark (S.F CHRONICLE,
     8/1)....Kansas City, MO, Platte County and the state of MO
     sent a team of 11 officials to "try to persuade
     International Speedway Corp. (ISC) to build a 1.5 mile track
     near Kansas City International Airport." Kansas City, KS,
     Wyandotte County and the state of KS are "the competitors"
     (K.C. STAR, 7/31)....The Minneapolis Charter Commission
     "denied a request" to put a Twins ballpark measure issue on
     the city's November ballot.  But the group proposing the
     referendum, "Progressive Minnesota," is pursuing a petition
     drive (STAR TRIBUNE, 8/1).
