MEDIA NOTES

          CNN/SI released a statement announcing that NBA
     reporter Jackie MacMullan has agreed to continue her role at
     the network after offering her resignation after an
     erroneous report was attributed to her on CNNSI.com.  CNN/SI
     said it "apologizes to the parties involved and regrets any
     difficulties it may have caused" (CNN/SI)....In Chicago,
     sources of Herb Gould put the Big Ten's 10-year extension
     with ABC and ESPN at "at least $500 million," the largest
     contract "ever negotiated by a single collegiate conference"
     (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 7/31)....Blackhawks President Bill
     Wirtz, on televising his team's home games: "When you think
     about the season-reservation holder (first), you can never
     go wrong.  Do you want to pay what our season tickets are to
     pay these players, or do you want to stay home if you can
     watch it for free?  We did not build [the United Center] for
     WGN, SportsChannel or anybody else.  We've got to pay this
     sucker off, and it's as simple as that" (SUN-TIMES, 7/30).
