THOMAS GETS HIS THOMSON TWINS? NEW PARTNER IDENTIFIED

Peter and David Thomson, sons of Canadian "media baron"
Ken Thomson, are a "key component" of the consortium Raptors
VP Isiah Thomas has put together to buy the team from Owner
Allan Slaight, according to Craig Daniels of the TORONTO
SUN. However, Daniels writes, "a source said it appears the
Thomsons want to be involved only if a way can be found to
unite the Maple Leafs and Raptors and solve the arena wars.
One source said that the Teachers' Pension Plan, part-owners
of Maple Leaf Gardens, seeks the same arrangement, and would
view a Thomson-led group favorably." But "it appears the
board at Maple Leaf Gardens may not be united in that aim."
If the Raptors and Maple Leafs joined on a facility, the
Thomsons would give the teams "the financial wherewithal" to
be competitive in the marketplace. Daniels adds that
sources also "suggested yesterday that if the sale to Thomas
did not go through, Slaight would offer the team" to MLG
Minority Owner Larry Tanenbaum (TORONTO SUN, 7/31).
