Pro Player Stadium will increase its stadium
advertising area by moving the Dolphins' Ring of Honor from
the middle rim of the stadium to the facade of the 400 level
(MIAMI HERALD, 7/31)....The City of Boston and the MA
Turnpike Authority reached an agreement on how to approve
developments over the MA Turnpike for a new sports,
entertainment and hotel complex, which would include a
Reebok sports club. The deal could also affect future
expansion of Fenway Park (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/31)....A public
hearing was held yesterday on a new Twins ballpark. Larry
Spooner, a warehouse supervisor from Plymouth, MN, said that
MN would be "grim" without the Twins or Vikings. Spooner:
"Hubert Humphrey said this would be a cold Omaha. Let's
give Omaha a little credit. This could be Fargo" (STAR
TRIBUNE, 7/31)....The NC State Senate approved a stadium tax
referendum to allow voters in Guilford and Forsyth counties
to decide "whether to impose a 1% tax on restaurant meals to
raise" $140M towards a proposed $220M ballpark (NEWS &
RECORD, 7/30)....In Atlanta, MARTA approved the $3.64M sale
of 9.5 acres of property to the Atlanta-Fulton County
Recreation Authority for the new arena development. The
property is being purchased by the 3% rental-car tax used to
finance the project (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 7/30).
....Denver's stadium authority announced that a six-county
referendum for a new Broncos stadium will not take place
this November. A stadium board will decide if a vote will
take place in May or November '98 (DENVER POST, 7/31).
